About the book
Skydance Animation created the animated series WondLa, which follows Eva Nine, a curious teenage girl raised in isolation by her robot caretaker, MUTHR. However, when she leaves her bunker it's discovered the world is very different and also inhabited by an alien species!
WondLa: The Art & Making of the Limited Series gives fans a look at the art and insights behind the show. This includes concept art, sketches, and stunning 3D models of the characters, creatures, and landscapes. Tony DiTerlizzi, the creator of the original book series, also provides the foreword.
First impressions
The print quality is the first thing that grabs you. Colors are rich and deep, the paper stock has a satisfying weight, and the large format gives the sprawling landscape paintings the room they deserve. It’s the kind of book that looks as good on a coffee table as it does on a shelf.
Content
WondLa: The Art & Making of the Limited Series. 176 pages, hardcover, Titan Books with Skydance Animation, written by Ramin Zahed. Released December 2, 2025, three weeks after the season three finale.

Characters
Next come Eva 9, Muthr, Rovender Kitt, Otto and Besteel, the season one antagonist. What’s worth noting here is the range of early exploration. The team knew from the start that the show wouldn’t be a direct copy of the books, and that freedom shows: there are versions quite different from the ones that made it to screen. Even in the loosest sketches, the personality already reads.

The journey through the story
From there, the book stops being organized by category and instead follows the story’s progression. Each leg of the journey brings its own locations, and with them, the creatures, props, vehicles and supporting characters that belong to it. The rhythm stays consistent: first idea, developed design, final render.

The worlds
This is where most of the pages go. Sanctuary, the bunker where Eva grows up. The flora of Orbona, genuinely strange. Solas, the alien city. And what’s left of New York, half-swallowed. Seeing those four contrasts in one book is what makes it work. And the work goes beyond architecture: sandsnipers, air whales, plants, building systems, alien species sheets, costume design.

The final stretch covers what most artbooks leave out. Joy Ngiaw’s score gets its own pages. There’s a full storyboard breakdown of one scene. And the entire color script for season one — probably the most valuable spread in the book if you’re interested in how animation is actually planned. On top of that, every piece is credited to its artist, page by page.
What’s inside
The book is organized as a guided tour through the world:
- Character design — early sketches, turnarounds and the evolution of the main cast.
- Creature concepts — the weird and wonderful fauna, from first doodle to final render.
- Environments — full-bleed landscape paintings that could each be a poster on their own.
- Behind the scenes — artist commentary that explains the why behind the designs.
The environment art alone is worth the price of admission — every page feels like a window into somewhere real.
Season one takes up the largest share of the 176 pages, which makes sense — that’s where the world gets built. If you finished season three and weren’t ready to leave Orbona, the rest of it lives here.
The artwork
What sets this book apart is how much process it shows. Instead of only printing polished final frames, it walks you through the messy, exciting middle: the rejected ideas, the happy accidents, the notes scribbled in the margins. For anyone who draws, paints or works in 3D, that’s pure gold.

If you love concept art, science fiction, or DiTerlizzi’s work, this is an easy recommendation. The only small downside is that a few sections feel like they could have gone even deeper — I was left wanting more, which honestly is a good problem for an artbook to have.
Verdict: a beautifully printed, generously illustrated artbook that belongs in any concept art collection.
Value
The list price is $50 / CA$66 / €50 / £35 — standard territory for an animation hardcover of this size, and fair for 176 pages of quality paper with a binding that lays flat. But almost nobody pays list on these. Artbook prices drift once the launch window closes, and this one has been discounted regularly since release, so check the current price before you commit.
